UK authorities' report on setting concentration limits for controlled phytocannabinoids

2022-01-20

The UK authorities have published a report on setting concentration limits for controlled phytocannabinoids along with the benefits and drawbacks of their usage. It concluded that setting a single maximum THC concentration limit that applies to all CBD products is not the right approach. The main challenge in recommending a single maximum dose for ∆9-THC is the consumption of products via different routes of administration - oral mucosal, oral, inhaled, topical - where bioavailability and absorption rates may vary. It is appropriate - according to UK officials - to set specific limits in the law for the content of ∆9-THC and ∆9-THCA in CBD products. The quantity limit for total ∆9-THC (∆9-THC + ∆9-THCA) should be 50 micrograms (µg) per unit of consumption (where a unit of consumption or "single serving" is a typical amount of product consumed at one time).
